The outer shell of the ammonite on the back of the pendant was left in it's natural, opalized state with a few glints of fire on the surface of the shell.  The wire was oxidized naturally with egg yolk to bring out the rich contrast and texture of the weave, then hand-polished to an aged finish. It is thought ammonites inhabited ancient shallow seas and succumbed to the same mass extinction responsible for the demise of the dinosaurs.
