This colorful locket contains an array of multi-colored bismuth crystals and comes suspended on your choice of Sterling silver chain. Pendant dimensions are 1.4" x 1.2" x 0.4"(36x30x11mm).
Bismuth is naturally a silvery-white color as a fresh crystal but acquires it's colorful, iridescent surface due to it's exposure to air and oxidation of it's surface. The spiral stair stepped structure of a bismuth crystal is the result of a higher growth rate around the outside edges than on the inside edges. The variations in the thickness of the oxide layer that forms on the surface of the crystal causes different wavelengths of light to interfere upon reflection, thus displaying a rainbow of colors.
