This handcrafted pendant was made with a lab-grown bismuth crystal, wrapped in solid, copper wire and Czech glass beads, set with copper caps. The wire was oxidized, then sealed in clear lacquer to resist tarnish and preserve the aged finish of the piece over time. The pendant, measures 48x35x22mm (1.9" x 1.4" x 0.9") and comes suspended on your choice of chain. This is truly a one-of-a-kind piece, since each and every bismuth crystal is unique.
Bismuth is naturally a silvery-white color as a fresh crystal but acquires it's colorful, iridescent surface due to it's exposure to air and oxidation of it's surface. The spiral stair stepped structure of a bismuth crystal is the result of a higher growth rate around the outside edges than on the inside edges. The variations in the thickness of the oxide layer that forms on the surface of the crystal causes different wavelengths of light to interfere upon reflection, thus displaying a rainbow of colors.
This is an heirloom-quality piece you can treasure for many years to come.
